Abu Dhabi has plenty to keep returning travellers interested, and the months ahead are set to add even more to the list. From a major new museum on Saadiyat Island to expanding entertainment attractions, stronger air connectivity from India and a visa initiative for eligible holidaymakers, the UAE capital is building on its already diverse visitor offering. For Indian travellers, the timing is especially convenient. A new direct Air India service from Navi Mumbai has been added to the existing network connecting India with Abu Dhabi, while a limited-period initiative is making UAE entry visas complimentary for eligible holiday packages. Add Diwali celebrations, cultural experiences, and Abu Dhabi’s established mix of beaches, museums, hotels, and family attractions, and there is plenty of reason to consider the capital for a holiday this season.

The biggest addition to Abu Dhabi’s cultural calendar is the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, which is scheduled to open on December 11, 2026. Designed by Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate Frank Gehry, the museum is located in the Saadiyat Cultural District Abu Dhabi, an area that has become an important cultural destination on Saadiyat Island.

The building itself is expected to be one of the major draws. Its design features ten sculptural cones rising up to 88 metres, with their form serving both aesthetic and practical purposes by providing shade and supporting natural ventilation. Inside, 30 galleries will be arranged around a central atrium, creating a series of interconnected spaces for visitors to explore.

The museum will include 11,600 square metres of indoor gallery space and 23,000 square metres of outdoor exhibition areas. Its programme will span modern and contemporary art across paintings, sculptures, photography, installations, moving images, and new media, with an emphasis on bringing different cultures and generations into conversation.

The Guggenheim joins an expanding line-up of attractions in Abu Dhabi. Indian visitors can also look forward to upcoming developments such as Disney Resort Abu Dhabi and Sphere Abu Dhabi, while Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is set to expand its offering with a dedicated Harry Potter-themed experience.

For travellers who prefer culture to theme parks, Abu Dhabi’s existing institutions provide plenty to explore. The Louvre Abu Dhabi remains a major draw on Saadiyat Island, and the destination’s cultural calendar becomes particularly relevant around Diwali. During the festival, hotels, and other hospitality venues across Abu Dhabi will mark the occasion with special celebrations and experiences for Indian travellers. Louvre Abu Dhabi will also offer Diwali-specific tours and experiences, giving visitors another way to incorporate the festival into a cultural holiday.

Beyond the major attractions, Abu Dhabi’s hotels, restaurants, beaches, and entertainment venues make it easy to combine sightseeing with slower days by the water or evenings spent exploring the city.

Easier From India

Getting to Abu Dhabi is becoming more convenient for Indian travellers. Air India launched its inaugural Navi Mumbai-Abu Dhabi service on July 15, adding another option alongside Etihad Airways and other airline partners operating between India and the UAE capital.

The destination is also strengthening its engagement with Indian travel professionals. In July, the Department of Culture and Tourism-Abu Dhabi took its Experience Abu Dhabi Roadshow to Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Chennai, bringing together tourism partners and more than 300 travel professionals across the three cities. The initiative highlighted Abu Dhabi’s latest hotels, attractions, cultural institutions, events, and experiences, with a focus on making it easier for Indian travel advisors to plan holidays in the emirate.

The push comes after a strong year for Abu Dhabi tourism. In 2025, the emirate welcomed 26.6 million visitors, while hotel revenues rose by 19.5 per cent year on year. Its cultural institutions recorded 8.6 million visits, underlining the growing role of art and heritage in the destination’s tourism offering.

A Timely Visa Perk

There is another reason Indian travellers may want to plan an Abu Dhabi holiday between August and October. From August 1 to October 31, 2026, DCT Abu Dhabi is running a travel trade initiative under which eligible Indian passport holders can receive a complimentary UAE entry visa when booking a qualifying Abu Dhabi holiday through participating travel partners and online travel agencies.

The offer applies to bookings that include at least three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel and a return flight from India. DCT Abu Dhabi will cover the cost of the UAE entry visa, with the pilot programme initially supporting up to 20,000 visas. The initiative is available only through participating travel partners and OTAs, so travellers will need to check eligibility and booking conditions before making arrangements.

With a major cultural opening on the horizon, new attractions in the pipeline, more flight options from India and a seasonal visa incentive, Abu Dhabi has plenty to add to an itinerary. For travellers considering a UAE holiday, the capital offers a compelling mix of art, entertainment, hospitality, and experiences that can stretch well beyond a single visit.
