Did you know that now you can also spend a night or two in one of the houses where American novelist and short story writer F Scott Fitzgerald (of the &lsquoThe Great Gatsby&rsquo fame) and his wife Zelda spent a couple of years in their peripatetic career
The Jazz Age (a term coined by Fitzgerald to describe the 1920s) couple lived in this Lockwood home in Montgomery, Alabama from 1931 until 1932, when they worked on portions of their novels &lsquoTender is the Night&rsquo and &lsquoSave Me the Waltz&rsquo, respectively. It is located in Cloverdale, said to be one of Montgomery&rsquos oldest and historic neighbourhoods. There are many plaques dotting the neighbourhood indicating its historical associations.
The building was constructed in 1910 as a single family structure and was later subdivided into four apartments. Bathrooms were added in the 1930s.
Now, the building houses the only museum dedicated to them on the ground floor and two separate suites on the upper floor. You may book your stay through Airbnb.
However, the vacation rental company does not fail to remind its customers that it is a historic home and there are limitations to modernising it with contemporary amenities. So bathrooms, tubs and showers are smaller than contemporary facilities. &ldquoIf you require those, this may not be the suite for you,&rdquo the website mentions clearly.
Even though the amenities may fall short of modern requirements, there are instances when you will come within touching distance of history. For example, the original wallpaper is exposed in the living room and bedroom in the Scott Suite. Guests also get a complimentary tour of the museum.
In keeping with the pandemic containment norms, the website has assured that hosts have committed to a rigorous cleaning protocol developed with leading health and hospitality experts.
