If you’re looking to pair natural beauty with a unique dining experience, Jharkhand has just added an exciting new stop to your travel itinerary. Located on the serene waters of Tilaiya Dam in Koderma district, the state’s first-ever floating restaurant has opened its doors.

The floating restaurant is part of a larger push to develop Tilaiya Dam into a well-rounded tourism hub. On the same day as the restaurant’s unveiling, a newly constructed multipurpose park—spanning six acres—was also opened to the public. Built at a cost of INR 2.38 crore, the park is expected to serve as a green space.

Inaugurated recently by Sudivya Kumar, Jharkhand’s Minister for Urban Development, Sports, and Tourism, the floating restaurant marks a milestone for Jharkhand’s growing tourism infrastructure. Set against the lush backdrop of the Urwan Tilaiya Dam, the floating eatery is poised to become another attraction for visitors.

The floating platform, which can seat up to 25 guests at a time, was commissioned from a specialist manufacturer based in Varanasi and cost approximately INR 49 lakh. According to local officials, bookings for the restaurant will open in early September, once pricing and operational details are finalised. Diners can expect a curated menu of regional cuisine.

Dining On Water: More Than Just A Meal

The floating restaurant is being positioned as a multi-use venue, suitable for birthdays, anniversaries, pre-wedding shoots, and other private events. Om Prakash Preet, coordinator of the Ranchi-based firm B Mix—which has been tasked with running the restaurant—emphasised that the goal is to create “an immersive experience where people can enjoy delicious food while surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the dam.”

Built at a cost of INR 2.38 crore, the park is expected to serve as a vital green space and recreational zone for both locals and tourists.

Tilaiya’s Tourism Transformation

Koderma Deputy Commissioner Rituraj noted that these twin developments—the restaurant and the park—are expected to spur tourism in the region while also creating local employment opportunities. With the restaurant and park set to draw visitors, nearby areas are already seeing a rise in interest from hospitality and service businesses.
