The era of airport sprints, impossible layovers and “one more connecting flight” may finally be getting a luxury upgrade. Australian travel platform Luxury Escapes has announced its first-ever Arctic private charter journey, a 16-day Nordic itinerary that trades crowded terminals for a privately chartered Boeing 737-300 flying directly across some of the world’s most sought-after northern destinations.

Scheduled for July 2027, the new “Arctic Wonders Exclusive Private Charter” will take travellers through Sweden, Finland, Norway, Iceland, and Scotland in one seamless route, stitching together destinations that are often difficult to combine through regular commercial schedules. The journey begins in Stockholm before moving through Finnish Lapland, Norway’s Lofoten Islands, Reykjavik and finally Edinburgh, where the trip concludes with a farewell dinner inside a centuries-old Scottish castle.

The launch arrives at a time when experiential travel continues to dominate traveller wishlists. Increasingly, travellers are prioritising journeys that feel immersive, unusual and story-driven over standard luxury holidays. Arctic and Nordic destinations, in particular, have surged in popularity over the last few years, fuelled by cinematic landscapes, nature-led travel and a growing appetite for cooler-weather escapes.

Arctic By Air

Luxury Escapes says the itinerary was developed entirely in-house and designed specifically around accessibility and convenience. While the Arctic has long fascinated travellers, visiting multiple destinations within the region often means juggling several airlines, lengthy transit routes and overnight layovers. The private charter format changes that equation completely.

Travellers will fly directly between destinations aboard the chartered aircraft, cutting down travel time and allowing for longer stays and more immersive experiences on the ground. The journey includes four internal flights across the Nordic region, alongside international return flights departing from Australia.

The itinerary itself reads like a greatest-hits collection of northern Europe. In Stockholm, guests will stay at the iconic Grand Hôtel and dine in a venue inspired by the Nobel banquet setting. In Finland’s Lapland region, the experience shifts into Arctic fantasy territory with stays in glass-roofed igloos beneath the midnight summer sky.

Norway’s Lofoten Islands, often described as one of the country’s most dramatic coastal regions, bring fjord cruises, fishing villages and rugged mountain scenery into the mix. Guests will also have the option of taking a polar plunge in the Arctic waters of Trollfjord. Iceland’s leg of the journey focuses on geothermal landscapes, volcanic terrain and the country’s famed natural hot springs, before the tour wraps up in Edinburgh with whisky tastings, walks along the Royal Mile and a final evening at Barnbougle Castle overlooking the Firth of Forth.

New Luxury Shift

The move also reflects a broader shift in luxury tourism. Private jet journeys were once largely associated with ultra-high-net-worth travellers willing to spend extraordinary amounts on around-the-world itineraries. But travel companies are now increasingly exploring “accessible luxury” models that package premium experiences at comparatively lower price points.

Luxury Escapes has positioned this Arctic charter within that growing niche. The full 16-day journey is priced at AUD 34,999 per person, which includes international flights from Australia, internal charter flights, accommodation across a range of four- and five-star hotels, and curated experiences throughout the trip. According to the company, comparable private jet tours often begin at around AUD 10,000 per day.

This is not the company’s first experiment with charter-led touring either. Earlier this year, Luxury Escapes operated a private European charter journey aboard an Airbus A320 covering nine cities over 25 days. Following the strong response to that trip, the company appears to be doubling down on travellers looking for ambitious, multi-country itineraries without the logistical exhaustion that usually accompanies them.

The timing is notable, too. After years of travel disruptions and uncertainty, travellers are increasingly gravitating toward itineraries where flights, hotels and logistics are bundled into one coordinated experience. Multi-stop luxury touring, once considered complicated and exhausting, is now being repackaged as smooth, high-comfort exploration.

Beyond The Ordinary

What makes the Arctic charter particularly interesting is its focus on destinations that remain aspirational but logistically challenging. While Iceland has already cemented itself on global travel bucket lists, regions like Lapland and the Lofoten Islands still feel relatively remote for many international travellers. Combining all five countries into one continuous route transforms what would usually be a complicated travel puzzle into a single curated journey.

There is also a growing fascination with “coolcations” — travel centred around colder climates and northern landscapes — especially as travellers seek alternatives to crowded beach destinations and peak-summer heatwaves elsewhere in the world. Midnight sun experiences, fjord cruises, geothermal lagoons and Nordic wilderness retreats are increasingly becoming part of luxury travel conversations.

For travellers drawn to dramatic landscapes and immersive itineraries, the appeal is obvious: fewer airport queues, more time on the ground, and a journey that feels less like a checklist holiday and more like a moving Arctic narrative unfolding across five countries.
