Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2026: F1 Confirms December Race Dates

Formula 1 has confirmed that the 2026 season will conclude in Abu Dhabi, ending weeks of uncertainty over the final race of the championship. The Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will take place at Yas Marina Circuit from December 3 to 6. The confirmation was made during the Dutch Grand Prix weekend at Zandvoort, where Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali said the calendar was confirmed and preparations were progressing.

The announcement comes as a relief to travellers who have already booked flights, accommodation or race tickets for the December weekend. The uncertainty followed earlier disruptions to the Formula 1 calendar in the Middle East, with the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix cancelled in April because of the regional security situation. Formula 1 had previously said that the Qatar and Abu Dhabi races could be moved or replaced if they could not proceed safely, with European circuits including Imola reportedly considered as alternatives. The Qatar Grand Prix is now also scheduled to proceed, taking place at Lusail from November 27 to 29 before teams travel to Abu Dhabi.

Why Were There Questions Over Abu Dhabi?

The speculation around the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was linked to continuing regional tensions and the earlier disruption to the Formula 1 calendar. The Bahrain and Saudi Arabian races, which were scheduled for April, did not take place. Bahrain's race was subsequently moved to Malaysia's Sepang International Circuit and is scheduled for October 4.

Against this backdrop, there was a conjecture that Formula 1 could finish the season in Europe if the Qatar and Abu Dhabi rounds were unable to go ahead. A final decision had been expected by mid-September, while Imola was among the circuits reportedly being considered as a contingency venue. The latest confirmation removes that uncertainty and keeps Yas Marina Circuit as the final stop on the 2026 calendar.

What To Expect During Race Week

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is not limited to the race itself. The event has been held at Yas Marina Circuit since 2009 and has developed into a wider programme of concerts, hospitality and entertainment across Yas Island. In 2025, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and associated Yas Island events recorded a combined attendance of 339,000 people.

The 2026 programme will begin before the race weekend. Andrea Bocelli is scheduled to perform at Etihad Arena on December 2 as part of the new Yasalam Classics programme. The After-Race Concert series will feature Zara Larsson and Lewis Capaldi on December 3, followed by Imagine Dragons on December 5. Additional performers are yet to be announced.

For visitors, this means a trip can extend beyond time at the circuit. Yas Island's programme brings together motorsport, live music, dining, nightlife and hospitality, while the Grand Prix itself provides the main sporting event.
