Alorna Fort, also known as Halarn Fort, is a historic fort that sits on the banks of the Chapora River in North Goa, offering stunning views of the river and the surrounding lush greenery. It was built before the Portuguese occupation, captured from the Bhonsles in 1746, and subsequently rebuilt and renamed Santa Cruz de Alorna. In 1761, it once again came under Bhonsle control. Later, in 1781, the fort was captured by Dom Frederico Guilhermo de Souza. Strategically located in the northeastern corner of Pernem, the fort originally featured a deep moat and four bastions.

The fort is located in the village of Alorna, in the Pernem taluka of North Goa. It is situated approximately 30 kilometers from Mapusa and around 10 kilometers east of Malpem, along National Highway 17.
The best time to visit Alorna Fort is during the winter months, from November to February. The weather is pleasant and ideal for exploring the fort and its surroundings. If you are feeling a bit adventurous, visiting in monsoon season which starts in September, also offers a unique experience.
