Uttar Pradesh, a state steeped in a rich tapestry of history and culture, invites exploration at every turn. In a bid to celebrate and share this legacy, the Uttar Pradesh Heritage Walk Project offers visitors immersive walking tours tracing this remarkable heritage. Recently it was announced that the state government is launching an upgraded version of the Heritage Walk Project.
The newly launched initiative by Uttar Pradesh Tourism invites visitors to delve into the vibrant tapestry of the state's historical, cultural, religious, and natural heritage through a series of specialised walking tours. These thoughtfully designed experiences will offer in-depth insights into the state's iconic destinations, each steeped in rich narratives and unique attractions.
The project is not just limited to individual tourists; it extends to corporate groups, embassies, public sector enterprises, and educational institutions. Customised tours will be available, tailored to cater to specific interests and preferences, ensuring that every visitor can engage with the region's heritage in a meaningful and memorable way.
To effectively implement this project, the department is collaborating with tour operators, travel agencies, and hotels. Once the routes and details are finalised, tourists will be able to book these specialised tours online through the Uttar Pradesh tourism department's website and mobile app.
The Uttar Pradesh tourism department is planning to introduce six distinct types of tours: heritage walks, food and cuisine walks, handicrafts walks, eco-tourism walks, bird-watching walks, and customised historical walks.
These tours will feature key cities for tourism, including Lucknow, Varanasi, Agra, and Bhadohi. These heritage walks by UP will cover significant historical landmarks, cultural sites, and local attractions.
In Lucknow, visitors can explore famous sites such as the Bada Imambara, Rumi Darwaza, and the British Residency. The tours in Varanasi will include the Ramnagar Fort Circuit, as well as forts in Bundelkhand and monuments in Agra and Fatehpur Sikri.
Eco-tourism walks will also be available for nature enthusiasts at Dudhwa National Park, Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary, Sur Sarovar Bird Sanctuary near Agra, and various eco-tourism spots in the Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions.
Food enthusiasts can enjoy dedicated culinary tours through Lucknow’s Aminabad and Chowk areas, known for their street food, as well as Varanasi’s Kachori Gali and local sweet shops.
These tours will also showcase Bhadohi’s carpet-weaving industry, Firozabad’s glassware factories, and Lucknow’s famous Chikankari embroidery, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to discover the region’s rich crafts.
