In a significant boost to its international network, IndiGo has announced two new European destinations, reinforcing its strategic ambitions in the region. From October 8, 2025, the Indian low-cost carrier will commence direct flights from Mumbai to Copenhagen, marking its entry into Denmark and expanding its footprint across northern Europe. IndiGo also confirmed that Athens will be the inaugural destination for its first Airbus A321XLR aircraft, which is expected to join the fleet by the end of 2025.
IndiGo is set to make a landmark entry into Greece with the launch of six weekly non-stop flights between Delhi and Athens, scheduled to begin in early January 2026, pending regulatory approvals. This move will make IndiGo the only Indian airline to offer direct connectivity to Greece, opening a new chapter in India–Greece air travel.
Looking ahead, the airline also intends to establish direct links from both Delhi and Mumbai to Athens, with plans for three weekly frequencies on each route, subject to final clearances.
Starting October 8, 2025, IndiGo will introduce non-stop flights between Mumbai and Copenhagen, operating three times a week. The service will be operated using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on lease from Norse Atlantic Airways, marking a significant step in the airline’s continued international expansion. Flights from Mumbai will depart at 04:35, arriving in Copenhagen at 10:05, while the return leg from Copenhagen will take off at 12:30, landing in Mumbai at 00:30 the following day. With the addition of Copenhagen, IndiGo extends its reach into Northern Europe, making the Danish capital its 44th international and 138th overall destination.
The launch of Athens as IndiGo’s first destination served by the Airbus A321XLR comes at a time of strong growth in the India–Europe aviation market, fuelled by rising demand from both business and leisure travellers. This strategic expansion will be powered by IndiGo’s first A321XLR, a long-range aircraft set to join the fleet by the end of 2025. With a range of up to 8,700 kilometres, the aircraft will unlock new route possibilities previously beyond the reach of IndiGo’s current fleet.
Designed specifically for longer-haul routes, the A321XLR enables non-stop services from India to Europe with greater fuel efficiency, playing a key role in the airline’s push to grow its international footprint beyond Asia. IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers said the launch of this new aviation corridor marks an important strategic step in the airline’s international expansion. He added that it aligns well with India’s rapidly growing economy and a tourism sector that continues to gain global traction.
