The Assam government has unveiled a plans to construct its inaugural expressway, an ambitious project with an investment of INR 25,000 crore. This expressway aims to significantly enhance connectivity between the bustling cities of Guwahati and Silchar, two vital economic and tourism hubs in the state. This initiative will facilitate smoother logistics, encourage tourism, and foster economic growth by reducing travel time between the two places to just four hours.

One of the notable highlights of this route is its passage through the picturesque Umiam in Meghalaya, renowned for its stunning landscapes and serene waters.
This impressive four-lane corridor will not only streamline travel but also unlock greater industrial access to Panchgram, a vital hub renowned for its paper mill and a diverse array of industries.
The expressway is part of a larger infrastructure development initiative, with projects valued at INR 1 lakh crore set to be announced at the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit in Guwahati. Several major developments are underway to enhance Assam’s connectivity and drive economic growth. These include the Guwahati Ring Road Project, which aims to reduce urban congestion, and the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, designed to ensure wildlife protection while facilitating easier transit.
