Ras Al Khaimah is preparing for a significant expansion of its tourism industry, with new hotels, improved connectivity, and a broader destination strategy expected to bring more international travellers to the emirate. India is emerging as an important market in this growth story, with rising visitor numbers and increasing interest in leisure holidays, corporate events, and destination weddings.

The emirate recorded more than 670,000 visitors in the first half of 2026, its strongest first-half performance on record, according to the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA). Domestic arrivals increased by 47 per cent year on year, while May marked its strongest month for tourism activity. Despite disruptions to international travel earlier in the year due to regional tensions, the destination managed to sustain demand by strengthening its domestic market.

With an expanding hospitality pipeline and plans to reposition its destination brand, Ras Al Khaimah is now looking to build on this momentum. Its long-term ambition is to triple visitor numbers over the next four to five years, while doubling its existing hotel inventory.

India Drives Tourism Growth

India continues to be among Ras Al Khaimah's five largest source markets, supported by improved air connectivity, destination marketing, and growing interest in group travel. Indian visitor arrivals increased by 14 per cent in 2025, with the market maintaining its upward trajectory through 2026. Arrivals from India recorded a further 30 per cent year-on-year increase from May 2026 onwards, accompanied by a 12 per cent rise in room revenue, according to a subsequent RAKTDA update.

Accessibility has played an important role in attracting Indian travellers. IndiGo, Air India Express, and Air Arabia operate direct services connecting the emirate with multiple Indian cities and travel hubs. Dubai International Airport also serves as an alternative gateway, located approximately 45 minutes from Ras Al Khaimah.

The tourism authority has also entered into a memorandum of understanding with Emirates to strengthen destination promotion through joint marketing initiatives, travel trade engagements, media familiarisation programmes, and tailored holiday packages.

Beyond leisure travel, the emirate is looking to attract more Indian MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) groups and wedding celebrations. Its MICE revenue grew by 25 per cent in 2025, indicating the potential of the segment as a contributor to tourism demand. A combination of beachfront resorts, mountain retreats, desert landscapes, and dedicated event venues gives planners several settings to consider for corporate gatherings and large celebrations.

Hotels Expand The Offering

A growing hotel pipeline is expected to strengthen Ras Al Khaimah's ability to accommodate different traveller segments, from families and couples to corporate groups and wedding parties. New properties are also expected to add more meeting spaces, event venues, and accommodation options across price categories.

Among the upcoming additions is Rotana Ras Al Khaimah – The Mangroves, a 258-room property featuring a large ballroom, ten meeting rooms, and an outdoor events space. The development is expected to contribute to the emirate's MICE and destination wedding infrastructure.

SAIJ Mountain Lodge by Mantis, meanwhile, will introduce a different kind of stay as the first mountain lodge on Jebel Jais. With its nature-led positioning, the property is expected to broaden the destination's appeal among travellers interested in wellness and outdoor experiences.

One of the most significant developments on the horizon is Wynn Al Marjan Island, scheduled to open in September 2027. The project will feature 1,530 rooms, suites, and villas, alongside restaurants, entertainment venues, retail spaces, and event facilities. Its arrival is expected to add a substantial hospitality and entertainment offering to the emirate.

However, the development strategy extends beyond individual hotel openings. The broader objective is to build an accommodation network that can support sustained visitor growth while giving travellers more reasons to explore different parts of the emirate.

A New Tourism Identity

Alongside its infrastructure expansion, Ras Al Khaimah is preparing to introduce a repositioned destination brand. The exercise is intended to communicate the emirate's identity more clearly to international audiences while retaining the diversity of experiences that currently define its tourism offering.

The destination caters to several travel interests, including family holidays, romantic getaways, adventure tourism, nature-based experiences, and cultural exploration. Its coastline, desert terrain, mountain landscapes, and heritage attractions offer opportunities to develop itineraries beyond conventional resort holidays.

The repositioning is expected to give these varied experiences a more cohesive identity as the emirate competes with established tourism destinations across the region. Sustainability is also central to its long-term tourism strategy, with RAKTDA's Tourism Vision 2030 aiming to attract more than 3.5 million annual visitors while ensuring that tourism growth remains economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable.

The next four to five years will therefore be crucial for Ras Al Khaimah. Doubling its hotel inventory and tripling visitor numbers will require investment in accommodation to be matched by improved connectivity, stronger destination awareness, and a wider calendar of experiences and events. For Indian travellers, the expanding offering could make the emirate an increasingly relevant option for holidays, corporate travel, and celebrations.
