New data from Cleartrip’s latest travel trends tracker suggests that travellers are spending more, travelling more frequently, and making choices that prioritise comfort, flexibility, and meaningful experiences over budget considerations.

The findings, released as part of Cleartrip’s annual "Nation on Vacation (NoVac)" initiative, paint a picture of a travel market that is evolving rapidly. While flight and bus bookings continue to rise, it is the hospitality segment that is seeing the most dramatic growth. Hotel bookings surged by more than 80 per cent year-on-year, with luxury accommodation leading the charge. Five-star hotel bookings recorded a remarkable 108.2 per cent increase, indicating a growing appetite among Indian travellers for premium stays and elevated holiday experiences.

Luxury Takes Lead

The sharp rise in luxury bookings reflects a broader shift in traveller priorities. Rather than focusing solely on destinations, many travellers are now investing in the quality of the overall experience. From wellness retreats and boutique resorts to high-end city hotels, accommodation is increasingly becoming a central part of the holiday itself.

Family travel has emerged as another major driver of growth. Family hotel bookings jumped by 124.9 per cent, highlighting the strong demand for multigenerational holidays and shared travel experiences. Group bookings also rose by 24 per cent, while family travel overall increased by 68.6 per cent, suggesting that collective travel remains a priority for many Indian households.

The travel boom extends beyond hotels. Flight bookings grew by over 20 per cent compared to the previous year, while bus bookings increased by more than 35 per cent. Dibrugarh, Dimapur, Imphal, and Agartala are emerging as sought-after holiday destinations, reflecting a broader desire among travellers to explore lesser-visited parts of the country.

The Northeast’s popularity is particularly evident among solo women travellers, whose bookings to the region increased by 31.9 per cent. More broadly, solo female travel within India grew by 21.1 per cent, pointing to increasing confidence among women choosing to travel independently.

Travel decisions are also being shaped by events and experiences. The report notes that IPL matches hosted in Guwahati contributed to a spike in flight bookings, underlining the growing influence of sports, concerts, and live events in driving travel demand.

Gen Z Influence

Younger travellers continue to play a significant role in defining emerging travel patterns. For both Gen Z and Millennials, Bengaluru emerged as the most popular domestic destination this summer. Beyond its appeal as a city break, the Karnataka capital increasingly serves as a gateway for road trips and regional exploration.

Internationally, Bali remains the destination of choice for younger Indian travellers. Other favourites among Gen Z include Phuket, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, and Singapore, reflecting a preference for destinations that combine accessibility, lifestyle experiences, and strong digital visibility.

Overall booking trends show Delhi maintaining its position as the most booked domestic destination, while Bangkok remains the leading international choice among Indian travellers.

The report also highlights the emergence of new travel corridors. Domestically, airports such as Navi Mumbai, Darbhanga, Leh, Gorakhpur, and Kannur are seeing growing traction. Internationally, destinations including Nairobi, Frankfurt, Guangzhou, Riyadh, Lisbon, Milan, and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport are registering increased demand, supported by stronger connectivity and expanding traveller interest.

Another notable trend is the growing preference for digital payments and booking flexibility. Credit cards accounted for 63.1 per cent of domestic bookings and 48.9 per cent of international bookings. Travellers are also increasingly opting for flexible booking products and loyalty rewards, signalling a desire for greater control and convenience when planning trips.

Taken together, the findings reveal a travel landscape that is becoming more experience-driven, aspirational, and diverse.
