A trip to the zoo usually means walking from one enclosure to another, waiting for a tiger to emerge from the shade or watching a herd of deer graze at a distance. In Indore, that familiar experience now comes with a high-tech twist. The city has opened what has been described as India’s first Virtual Zoo, where wildlife encounters are recreated through digital projections, immersive technology and sensory effects.

Located within the Kamala Nehru Prani Sangrahalaya, popularly known as Indore Zoo, the new attraction combines a Digital Jungle Safari with a 14D cinema and a range of interactive installations. The facility was inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on August 16, 2026, and has been developed under a public-private partnership model at a reported cost of around INR 4.5-4.6 crore.

A Digital Jungle

Spread across approximately 8,000 square feet, the Virtual Zoo is designed to offer visitors a different way of experiencing forests, animals, and ecosystems. Instead of encountering wildlife in physical enclosures, visitors can explore digitally recreated habitats using VR, 3D visuals, projections, and interactive simulations.

At the centre of the experience is the Digital Jungle Safari, which aims to recreate the feeling of travelling through a forest without requiring visitors to enter one. The technology-led format also has an educational focus, introducing visitors to wildlife, animal behaviour, biodiversity and conservation through digital interpretation.

The experience extends beyond the safari itself. A Hologram Zoo uses three-dimensional projections to create the illusion of animals appearing in the surrounding space, while a Digital Garden and Digital Experience Zone add more interactive elements to the attraction. There is also a digital maze designed around animal sounds and a mirror bridge featuring a Hanuman hologram.

Into The 14D

The 14D cinema is likely to be one of the biggest draws, particularly for families and children. Designed to make films more immersive, the theatre combines large-scale visuals with physical effects that respond to what is happening on screen.

Visitors can expect moving seats, vibrations, wind blasts, water sprays, fog, bubbles and even smell effects during the experience. VR glasses are also part of the setup. The screen has reportedly been imported from South Korea and is waterproof, while the facility also includes a 3D dome theatre.

The idea is to blur the line between watching a wildlife film and experiencing the environment depicted in it. A virtual jungle sequence, for instance, can be accompanied by movement, wind or water effects, making the audience feel as though they are travelling through the landscape rather than simply observing it from a cinema seat.

Plan Your Visit

The attraction has been designed with both entertainment and wildlife education in mind. By bringing forests and animal habitats into an immersive digital environment, the facility aims to make learning about nature more interactive, particularly for younger visitors.

The Virtual Zoo is open from Tuesday to Sunday, between 10 AM and 6 PM, and remains closed on Mondays. Sixteen shows are scheduled each day, with each 14D presentation lasting approximately 20 minutes. Exact show timings are to be confirmed at the venue.

Tickets are priced at INR 70 per person, with the ticket reported to provide access to the main attractions. Visitors can also find booking information through the official Indore Zoo website.

With its mix of digital wildlife, holograms, sensory cinema and interactive installations, Indore’s latest attraction offers a distinctly modern interpretation of the traditional zoo. For visitors looking to add something different to an Indore itinerary, this could be a chance to enter the jungle without actually leaving the city.
