Now, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) is giving this invisible network a technological upgrade. On the occasion of World Meteorological Day, the national weather agency announced the induction of a new digital surface meteorological observation system into its monitoring network, signalling a significant step toward modernising how India measures and tracks weather.
