Uber has launched its first water transport service in Kashmir, called Uber Shikara, allowing tourists to book shikara rides on the famous Dal Lake in Srinagar through their mobile app. According to reports, this new service is designed to make it easier for visitors to plan their scenic boat rides, especially during the busy holiday season. Tourists can book their rides 12 hours to 15 days in advance, ensuring they have a smooth and enjoyable experience without the hassle of waiting for a boat.

The service is available for rides up to one hour, accommodating up to four passengers per shikara. One key feature of Uber Shikara is that the entire cost of the ride is passed directly to the Shikara drivers, with Uber not taking any commission. This initiative aims to provide additional economic opportunities for the local tourism workers, helping to support the livelihoods of shikara drivers in the region.

Shikara Rides In Kashmir

Shikara rides are an integral part of the Kashmir experience, offering visitors a peaceful and picturesque way to explore Dal Lake. These traditional wooden boats, known as shikaras, glide smoothly over the lake’s calm waters, passing by floating gardens, houseboats, and the stunning backdrop of the Himalayan mountains. The ride provides a unique perspective of the region’s beauty, making it one of the most memorable activities for anyone visiting Kashmir.

These boats are beautifully crafted, often painted in bright colours, and are equipped with comfortable cushions for passengers to sit and enjoy the views. As you glide through the serene waters of Dal Lake, you can witness the unique floating markets, where local vendors sell flowers, vegetables, and handicrafts right from their boats. The surrounding views of the snow-capped mountains, lush green landscapes, and traditional houseboats add to the enchantment, making the Shikara ride a memorable experience for every visitor.
