Thailand has introduced a new five-year multiple-entry visa targeting digital nomads, freelancers and remote workers, including applicants from India.

The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) allows stays of up to 180 days per entry, extendable to a maximum of 360 days. The visa is priced at around INR 25,000 and is aimed at supporting long-term, flexible work arrangements.

About The Scheme

The scheme is part of Thailand’s effort to attract location-independent professionals and boost extended-stay tourism.

The scheme also covers so-called “soft power” activities, including Muay Thai training, wellness retreats and cultural programmes, reflecting Thailand’s broader push to position itself as a remote work and lifestyle hub. Officials say the initiative is intended to boost tourism while encouraging longer-term stays from high-spending visitors engaged in location-independent work.

  • Applicants must show financial proof of at least 500,000 Thai Baht (about INR 13.3 lakh)

  • A one-time fee of 10,000 Thai Baht (roughly INR 26,673) applies at the point of application

  • The visa covers remote professionals, freelancers, and those joining approved cultural or wellness programmes

  • Family members, including spouses and children under 20, may be included under dependent applications

The visa requires applicants to meet both financial and administrative criteria before approval. It is designed for long-stay visitors who can sustain themselves while living in Thailand.

Officials say the scheme is part of wider efforts to support tourism-linked economic activity by encouraging extended stays from international visitors.

An Attractive Destination For Indians

  • Thailand remains one of the most visited overseas destinations for Indians, with demand staying strong across both short breaks and longer holidays. Easy entry rules, short flight times and frequent connectivity have kept it high on travel lists, especially for quick international getaways.

  • A big part of the appeal is cost. Many Indian travellers find Thailand relatively affordable compared with other long-haul destinations, whether it is for budget trips or premium stays. The mix of beach destinations, city life and nightlife also means it works for different travel styles, from family holidays and weddings to younger groups looking for a social trip.

  • Popular hotspots such as Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Krabi, Chiang Mai, and Koh Kood continue to draw strong demand, supported by improved air connectivity and a growing network of direct flights from major Indian carriers.
