On the morning of April 8, 2025, Kanlaon Volcano, located on Negros Island in the Philippines, experienced a significant explosive eruption. The event commenced at 5:51 a.m. and concluded at 6:47 a.m., producing a substantial ash plume that ascended approximately 4,000 metres into the atmosphere and drifted southwest.
Local communities were immediately evacuated as a result of the eruption. More than 8,000 people sought shelter in evacuation shelters located throughout Western and Central Visayas, according to the Office of Civil Defence. In particular, 8,316 people (2,606 families) were housed in 22 evacuation centres, and 11,583 people (3,574 families) chose to remain with friends or family.
