Loyalty programmes have long been associated with airlines and hotel chains, rewarding travellers who stay within a single brand's ecosystem. But what if the rewards travelled with you instead? That is the idea behind OneCircle, MakeMyTrip's newly launched global rewards programme, which brings together more than 13,300 accommodation properties under a single umbrella, allowing travellers to earn and redeem rewards across a vast network of hotels, villas and homestays, regardless of brand.

The online travel platform has announced the launch of OneCircle with a network spanning 13,376 accommodation properties across 1,002 cities worldwide, as of June 30, 2026. The programme is designed around how Indian travellers increasingly plan their trips today, moving between independent hotels, boutique stays, villas and established hospitality brands instead of remaining loyal to one hotel chain. By offering a common rewards system across a diverse range of properties, MakeMyTrip is betting on flexibility rather than exclusivity.

India Leads

The programme has its strongest footprint in India, where over 12,330 accommodation properties across 868 cities have joined the network. Internationally, OneCircle extends to 1,046 properties spread across 39 countries and 134 destinations that are particularly popular among Indian outbound travellers.

Rather than focusing only on luxury hotels or branded chains, the network includes a mix of independent hotels, homestays, villas, and resorts across luxury, premium, and budget segments. According to MakeMyTrip, participating properties were selected based on customer ratings, on-ground assessments conducted by its supply teams, and the willingness of accommodation partners to be part of the programme.

Travellers booking any participating property will earn a minimum of 10 per cent of their accommodation spend back as reward points. These points can then be redeemed on subsequent stays anywhere within the OneCircle network, whether in India or overseas. The idea is to make rewards portable across destinations instead of restricting them to a particular hotel brand or membership tier.

Beyond Metros

One of the more notable aspects of the programme is where its network is concentrated. While India's major cities remain well represented, nearly three out of every four participating properties are located in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, reflecting the continued growth of domestic tourism beyond metropolitan hubs.

Among cities, Gurugram currently has the highest number of participating properties, followed by Bengaluru and Jaipur. At the state level, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Kerala account for the largest share of accommodation partners in the programme.

The network spans an extensive range of destinations, covering business centres, beach towns, hill stations, pilgrimage destinations, and lesser-known leisure escapes. This broad spread mirrors changing travel patterns in India, where weekend getaways, road trips, and regional tourism have become increasingly important alongside traditional holiday destinations.

For accommodation providers, particularly independent hotels and smaller hospitality businesses, joining a shared rewards ecosystem could help attract repeat customers without having to develop and manage standalone loyalty programmes of their own. For travellers, it offers a way to accumulate rewards even when they choose different types of accommodation across multiple trips.

Global Expansion

The launch also reflects the growing importance of outbound travel among Indian tourists. Although the programme remains India-heavy, the inclusion of more than a thousand international properties across 39 countries allows travellers to continue earning and redeeming rewards while travelling abroad, without switching to another loyalty ecosystem.

The rollout comes at a time when competition among online travel platforms is increasingly centred on customer retention rather than just discounts. As travellers become more comfortable comparing hotels across platforms and accommodation types, loyalty programmes are evolving to offer value beyond individual brands. A network-based rewards model, where points can be earned across a wide range of independent properties, represents a different approach from the traditional hotel membership model.

MakeMyTrip says OneCircle has already seen encouraging traction during its phased rollout, although it has not shared specific user or booking figures. With more than 13,000 participating properties already onboard, the company appears to be positioning the programme as one of the largest accommodation rewards networks built specifically for Indian travellers, combining domestic and international stays under a single rewards system.

As travel becomes increasingly experience-led and accommodation choices grow more varied, programmes like OneCircle reflect a broader shift in how travellers expect loyalty to work. Instead of asking guests to stay within one hotel brand, the focus is now on rewarding them wherever they choose to stay, whether that is a boutique homestay in the hills, a business hotel in the city or a beach resort halfway across the world.
