The Karnataka Department of Tourism is set to revolutionise travel planning by launching an interactive digital platform to promote the state's diverse destinations. Tourism Director KV Rajendra announced the initiative, which will provide tourists with comprehensive travel resources, making trip planning more efficient and engaging.

A New Era Of Digital Tourism

Speaking at a coastal Karnataka tourism workshop, Dr Rajendra highlighted the key features of the upcoming platform, as reported by a Chennai-based Indian English-language daily newspaper. It will serve as a one-stop resource, offering detailed information on tourist attractions, accommodations, tour operators, guides, and experiences across the state. From beaches and wildlife sanctuaries to heritage sites and adventure activities, travellers can access curated content tailored to their interests.

The initiative is part of the Karnataka Tourism Policy 2024-29, under which the government has identified 25 tourism themes and 44 tourism products for support. These include ecotourism, heritage circuits, adventure tourism, and wellness retreats. The government has introduced various subsidies, concessions, and incentives to bolster the sector and encourage private investment in tourism infrastructure.

Enhancing Tourist Experiences

Dr Rajendra stressed the importance of collaboration with stakeholders, urging tour operators and hoteliers to contribute their offerings to the digital platform. This will ensure visitors receive the most up-to-date and diverse travel options.

Additionally, Karnataka Tourism is focusing on experiential travel by curating an annual calendar of events and festivals. "The idea is to enhance cultural tourism by giving visitors a real taste of Karnataka's heritage without commercialising traditional celebrations," Dr Rajendra explained.

Boosting Coastal Tourism

A significant move under this policy is the establishment of a Coastal Tourism Development Board. This board will guide investors looking to develop projects along Karnataka's scenic coastline, ensuring sustainable and strategic tourism growth.

In line with global outreach efforts, the Karnataka International Travel Expo is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru from February 26 to 28, featuring participation from 120 foreign tour operators. This expo aims to position Karnataka as a premier travel destination for international tourists.

With this digital push, Karnataka Tourism is embracing technology to enhance accessibility, provide immersive experiences, and drive tourism growth in the state. As the platform rolls out, travellers can expect a seamless and enriched journey through Karnataka's vibrant landscapes, culture, and heritage.
