In a recent announcement, the Turkish Embassy in New Delhi has revealed that Indian passport holders, along with travellers from Nepal, who are journeying to Mexico, Panama, Colombia, and Venezuela and transiting via Istanbul Airport, will now need to obtain an "Electronic Airport Transit Visa" (e-ATV).
The embassy conveyed this update via their official channels, emphasising the commencement of this requirement as of April 15, 2024. Travellers under this category can secure their e-ATV through the designated website (evisa.gov.tr) at no cost, aligning with current practices.
Furthermore, Indian and Nepalese travellers embarking on journeys to the specified South American destinations are advised to carry a printed copy of their e-ATVs throughout their travels. As mandated by international aviation regulations, airlines and service providers at departure airports and Turkish authorities at transit passenger arrival points within Istanbul Airport will verify this documentation.
This new measure aims to streamline the transit process for travellers from India and Nepal, ensuring smooth passage through Istanbul Airport en route to their final destinations in South America.
