Delhi is set to embark on a new chapter in water tourism as the Delhi government and the Centre have signed an MoU to develop boat services along the Yamuna River. The initiative will introduce boat rides on a 4-kilometer stretch between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur, offering residents and tourists a fresh way to experience the city’s waterways.
For years, the Yamuna has remained an underutilised resource for transportation and leisure. This project aims to change that by transforming the river into a vibrant tourism hub.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the initiative will not only provide a modern identity to Delhi but also emphasize cleanliness, beautification, and development. She envisions the Yamuna ghats evolving into cultural and artistic spaces, with the government committed to sustained river cleaning and infrastructure enhancement.
With this development, Delhi is set to join other global cities that have successfully integrated river tourism into their urban landscape.
