Pour Over Coffee Roasters sits right at the heart of Khan Market. If you are weary from all that shopping and are looking for the perfect option to unwind over some delectable coffee and cocktails, then think no more and walk into this cafe. You will be greeted by a mirror which says “The Work of Art is You.” Then you enter the cafe and are greeted by more art, with its walls full of paintings, and areca palms adorning the corners.

Pour Over prides itself on thoughtful sourcing, meticulous roasting, and a focus on origin stories. Like most other places, these are not abstract concepts for them; they put out information for their customers to know. I went there for their newly introduced exclusive Colombian collection. They are coffees from Huila, a region globally recognised for its coffee quality, biodiversity, and innovation. Among their highlights are the Papayo Natural and the Colombian Blend Natural.

A Taste of Huila

I started with an espresso shot of each. The Papayo Natural offers notes of pineapple, tropical fruits and berries, complemented by a silky body and bright acidity. Imagine coffee with an expressive profile, this is exactly that. The Columbian Blend Natural was more rounded with layers of red fruits, cacao and wine-like sweetness.

While I was immersed in the flavours, the coffee cards caught my attention. Pour Over’s conviction to tell stories was in my hands. These cards came with each coffee I ordered and had details like origin, SCA cup score, roast, harvest and so on. If you are fascinated by stories, you cannot help but appreciate your cup a little more. My Papayo was harvested in January at Acevedo, Huila, Colombia, underwent 96-hour natural fermentation, and was medium roasted.

This is another expression of founder Ritika Sharma’s intent to discover newer blends that push the boundaries of fermentation and processing, as well as generations of farming knowledge. For her, “Every lot in this collection was selected because it represented something unique: a producer, a process, a variety or a story worth sharing. This launch is not about importing coffee from another country. It is about building a bridge between origin and cup, between producer and consumer, and between Colombia and India.”

Fruity flavours or the wine-intonation; both worked quite well. If you are a coffee connoisseur or want to become one, you should try this on your next visit. My curiosity was piqued by the fresh taste of these Colombian blends, and I wanted to try some other specialties at Pour Over.

What Else To Order

I was suggested to try two of their bestsellers, the Golden Brew and the Red Eye Salsa. The Golden Brew was a mixture of mango and cold brew. The sweet, tangy flavours of the mango courted the bitterness of the coffee. The Red Eye Salsa was coffee with a bit of spice, with a half cherry tomato floating on top of the cold brew. The tomato and jalapeno flavours were sharp and cut through the coffee. I was not sure if I liked it.

Pour Over’s cocktail collection is also unmistakable. In other words, you cannot stop at one drink. I tried the espresso martini with vodka, espresso, homemade coffee liqueur, and cacao buttermilk. This was perfection, and I savoured it for a little too long, along with my basil pesto risotto, which had set the mood for the evening.
