Hotel Irada Bags Michelin Key: Inside India’s First-Year Wine Country Winner

A European-style chateau rising from the vineyards of rural Maharashtra is probably the last thing you expect to see on the road to Baramati. Yet that is precisely the first impression Hotel Irada makes. Set on a 66-acre working winery, about two hours from Pune, the 32-room property combines an old-world country estate with a distinctly contemporary Indian design sensibility. In September 2026, it added another reason to make the journey: a One MICHELIN Key, awarded in its first year.

The MICHELIN Key is the hotel equivalent of the MICHELIN Star, although its focus is the entire hospitality experience rather than food alone. For Irada, the recognition arrives soon after its debut and places it among India's 2026 Key hotels.

A Country Estate Reimagined

Irada occupies the former country estate associated with Four Seasons winery. The property retains the theatrical bones of the original chateau, including its soaring 35-metre viewing tower, terracotta roof and grand approach, while a substantial refurbishment by Kozhikode-based design studio The Humming Tree has given the interiors a more eclectic identity.

Inside, the look is deliberately collected rather than uniformly polished. Burgundy tones, mid-century furniture, chandeliers, patterned rugs and more than 150 pieces sourced from Paris' Les Puces flea markets give the rooms and public spaces an individual character. Indian craftsmanship is equally important. A large custom Jaipur Rugs installation in the lobby depicts the life of the estate, while Indian stone, locally sourced wood and tactile finishes appear throughout the accommodation.

Then there is the landscape itself. The working vineyard is surrounded by roughly 4,000 acres of reserve forest, so the setting is integral to the stay rather than a backdrop added to it. Guests can walk through the vines with an estate sommelier, visit the fermentation and barrel rooms and finish with a tasting.

The 32 rooms range from Reserve Rooms and Gallery Rooms to Vineyard Suites and the 1,250-square-foot Collector's Suite. The Vineyard Suites bring together arched ceilings, French panelling, chevron leather beds, Burgundy bathtubs and private sit-outs facing the vines. Reserve Rooms come with private balconies, espresso machines, personal bars, curated art and evening turndown.

Why Did Hotel Irada Win A MICHELIN Key?

So, what exactly does Michelin look for? Its inspectors use five universal criteria: the quality of architecture and interior design, consistency of service and comfort, individuality and personality, value relative to the price, and the hotel’s contribution to its destination or setting. Inspectors visit anonymously and independently.

Irada’s strengths map neatly onto those criteria. Its architecture gives the hotel a recognisable silhouette, while the interiors avoid the standard luxury-hotel template through collected art, Indian craftsmanship and mid-century references. Its personality comes from the fact that the hotel is inseparable from its wine estate and surrounding landscape.

Service is supported by an unusually broad set of experiences. Nyāsa Wellbeing, the hotel's wellness programme created with the team behind Ananda in the Himalayas, brings Ayurvedic treatments, yoga, meditation, a sauna, steam room and hot plunge into the estate.

Food is another major part of the stay. Rosso focuses on Italian cuisine with western Indian influences, while the Irada Pool Club handles all-day dining. Lola by the Pool adds drinks and highballs, and Subko x Irada brings coffee and cacao into the mix. Private dining can take the form of a vineyard lunch, forest picnic or tower-top nightcap.

For an active afternoon, there is padel, pickleball, croquet and minigolf, along with forest trails, deer spotting and pottery. The combination means the property works as a destination in its own right, which is central to Michelin's assessment of hotels.

What To Do Around Hotel Irada

You could easily spend an entire weekend without leaving the estate, but the surrounding region gives you a few good reasons to venture out. The Four Seasons Winery is practically next door, making it an obvious stop for anyone interested in Maharashtra’s wine country.

About 40 minutes away, Mayureshwar Wildlife Sanctuary brings a very different landscape into the itinerary. The dry scrub and grassland ecosystem is known for sightings of the Indian gazelle, or chinkara. For a cultural detour, drive to Morgaon, roughly 45 to 50 minutes away, to visit Shri Mayureshwar Ganapati Temple, one of the important Ashtavinayak pilgrimage sites.

Closer to the estate, Bormalnath Mandir and the surrounding rural landscape make for shorter excursions. Yet Irada’s biggest draw may be the fact that you do not have to construct an elaborate itinerary at all. A morning among the vines, an afternoon treatment at Nyāsa, a swim, dinner at Rosso and a nightcap overlooking the estate can make the hotel itself the destination.
