Over the last several years, a certain kind of bar became familiar across Indian cities: a flower wall near the entrance, botanical themes running throughout the space, a neon line of text somewhere catchy and a well-lit corner designed for photographs. This approach helped many new venues introduce themselves quickly and build recognition, and it worked well for a considerable stretch of time. Now, alongside it, another approach is gaining ground, one that places more emphasis on how a space feels to sit in, rather than simply how it looks in a photograph.
