It was like the palace of Sleeping Beauty with shrubs and vines claiming the greater part of the building, recalled Pallab Roy, a scion of the Cossimbazar Roy family. But standing at the bottom of a broad flight of stairs, we found it difficult to imagine the state in which the Roys found their family seat after a hiatus of many years. Instead, we gasped at the sight of the resplendent colonnaded faade that stretched before us, dazzling white in the afternoon sun. Carved on the pediment above the main door was the family crest.
