Gujarati food is known for its unique flavours and wide range of dishes. A typical Gujarati thali includes a balanced assortment of items such as rotli (flatbread), dal or curry, rice and shaak (vegetable dishes). These are often accompanied by snacks like dhokla and sweets like jalebi, which showcase a delightful blend of sweet, salty and spicy flavours. Despite easy access to plentiful seafood, Gujarat is primarily a vegetarian state, but many communities such as the Kolis, Ghanchi and Parsis do include seafood, chicken and mutton in their diet. Ahmedabad is the capital of the state, and it is well-known for its textile industry, various historical monuments and temples. The food scene is not much talked about, but that does a disservice to the city’s many food joints.
