After two long decades, Uganda Airlines is flying again. Uganda re-launched the national airlines with an inaugural flight to Nairobi in Kenya.

&ldquoThe airline will first fly to seven destinations. Starting with Nairobi, Mogadishu, Juba and Dar es Saalam. And then to Mombasa, Kilimanjaro and Bujumbura," said Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda at Entebbe International Airport, according to an AFP report.

"Uganda Airlines is coming to compete in the market alongside other airlines", added Transport Minister Monica Azuba, in the same report.

Uganda Airlines&rsquo main competitors are currently Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airlines. Recently, Tanzania and Rwanda have revived their national airlines&rsquo to compete in the East Africa sky market.

The plan is to even reach China from Uganda, is how the Prime Minister put it. The government has invested in two new Bombardier CRJ 900 jets currently, with two more being delivered in September. By 2020, two Airbus A330-800 planes will also be added.

Uganda Airlines was started in 1976 but it was liquidated in 2001.
