Travellers Can Now Avail Of Cafes And Restrooms In Hampi Circle

Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Karnataka known for its archaeological wonders, has enchanted history buffs and adventurers with its incredible legacy and unique landscape. From the acclaimed Lotus Mahal, with influences from Indo-Islamic architecture to the Royal Gaj (elephant stables) and the Virupaksha Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, this historically rich region of Karnataka has a wealth of treasures. 

Due to the heat and the lack of places to rest, tourists may have found strolling around the ruins and structures to be a demanding proposition. There were no eateries or other facilities as the government was keen to preserve the monuments. That may be changing, as the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has introduced cafetaria and restroom amenities for visitors to Hampi.

What You Can Get

According to reports, two cafes have been inaugurated in Hampi, and additional outlets will come up later. At these laces, you will be able to get a cup of tea or coffee for a nominal price, along with snacks like puffs and samosas. To combat the heat, visitors will also be able to buy cold drinks and water bottles. One can only hope that there will not be any single-use plastic items among these. And that there will be adequate arrangements for a closed/circular loop disposal of the packaging.

Future Plans

Future plans include a restaurant and accommodation facilities. These amenities aim to improve the visitor experience and benefit the local economy while protecting the site's cultural integrity. Visitors to Hampi can soon avail of clean beds, hygienic toilets, and other essential services. Moreover, new restaurants will offer visitors freshly cooked food.

The ASI team has a small store where they sell tea, coffee, coconut, and light snacks at the moment. However, the team will soon offer a few rooms for tourists to use as temporary housing. The eateries will be developed in two locations: near the Vijaya Vittala temple grounds and the Ugra Narasimha Temple.

The nearest airport is in Vijaynagar (38 km) and/or Hubli (143 km) from Hampi. The nearest train station is Hospet (13 km).

Best Time To Visit

Hampi is known for extreme heat during summers when temperatures touch 40 degrees and above. Visit during winter, from October to February, when it is more pleasant.

Entry

Hampi is open to visit on all days, from sunrise to sunset. The museums and some monuments are ticketed and have specific opening and closing hours.
