This facility will also act like a rehab facility for injured animals

The Hampi Zoo will soon have a rescue and rehabilitation facility for wildlife. This move was planned after receiving help from Mysuru Zoo which helped to set up a veterinary hospital on their premises. The rescue centre aims to help in reducing human-animal conflict and also handle any kind of wildlife situation in the Kalyan region of Karnataka. It will also look after the treatment of the injured wildlife animals.

The rescue centre will be set up on the zoo premises.

The Executive Director of the Hampi Zoo said that this new centre will lessen the response time during the man-animal conflict, hence help to save the animals. &ldquoThe Daroji Sloth Bear sanctuary in Ballari has leopards and bears which come into conflict with human beings on various occasions. This facility will also act like a rehab facility for the injured animals&rdquo he said.

The Ballari zoo houses white tigers, lions and many other animals.

This is the first facility in Northern Karnataka and third in the state after Bengaluru and Mysuru.

The centre assumes importance as there have been instances where leopards and bears have been injured or regularly seen in areas where humans live.
