Nirmal "Nims" Purja, the record-breaking Nepali-born mountaineer whose feats made him a global climbing icon, has died in the avalanche that struck Broad Peak in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) earlier this week. His expedition company, Elite Exped, confirmed on Saturday that Purja's trusted climbing partners Pur Bahadur Gurung "Yukta" and Nima Sherpa also lost their lives in the disaster, bringing the confirmed death toll higher as search teams continued combing the mountain for five others still missing.
