Each year, during the winter season, travellers flock the hill stations in the north. However, this year, all such plans will need to be put on hold owing to the pandemic. With the number of cases rising and facing an all-time high, various states and union territories have put strict measures in place with respect to travellers. 

Himachal Pradesh&rsquos Lahaul-Spiti valley has also closed its doors to tourists until March/April next year. Considering the harsh weather ahead, limited medical facilities and the undulating terrain, the valley has decided to suspend all tourist activities. 

Additionally, the Rohtang Tunnel, linking Manali to Lahaul-Spiti, has also been shut for tourists and only locals will be allowed to access the same. According to media reports, Lahaul-Spiti&rsquos Deputy Commissioner, Pankaj Raj, said that the measure has been taken to avoid causing severe damage to public health in the region. Due to severe climatic conditions, people are also at greater risk and hence are vulnerable to the virus, he added.

There are also speculations that the state government might impose night curfews at key tourist destinations such as Shimla, Kullu and Mandi.
