Travellers from Punjab now have direct connectivity to Malaysia as Malaysia Airlines, on November 8, initiated operations between Amritsar (ATQ) and Kuala Lumpur (KUL).

The introduction of the direct flight to Amritsar aligns with the airline's strategy to enhance its connectivity in India. Currently, Malaysia Airlines operates flights from New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kochi.

Responding to the development, Dersenish Aresandiran, Chief Commercial Officer of Airlines from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), said, "India has shown an incredible resurgence in air travel demand and passenger traffic in recent times. With the introduction of direct flights to and from Amritsar & Malaysia, our goal is to enhance the travel options and flexibility for various Indian travellers, including students, leisure seekers, and business travellers."

The first flight, MH0118, arrived from Kuala Lumpur and received a water salute at Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport, Amritsar, at 10:10 pm local time, using a Boeing 737-800 NG. The return flight to Kuala Lumpur, MH0119, departed at 11:25 pm local time on the same day.

What Lies Ahead?

In the upcoming plans, Malaysia Airlines will launch two additional routes from Kuala Lumpur to Thiruvananthapuram (TRV) and Ahmedabad (AMD). It will be the first full-service premium carrier to provide flights to South Asia and the Pacific from Amritsar and Trivandrum. With these additions, the airline will have 65 weekly flights across nine key hubs to India.
