If you regularly travel between Kanpur and Lucknow, here’s some great news. The upcoming Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway, an eight-lane highway, is set to open this year. Spanning 63 kilometres, it will drastically cut travel time between the two cities from three hours to just 35-45 minutes.
According to reports, this expressway will start at Nawabganj in Kanpur and connect to Shaheed Path in Lucknow, passing through areas like Banthra, Bani, Datouli Kantha, Taura, Nyaurana, Amarsas, and Rawal Marg. To ensure a smooth journey, it will include three major bridges, 28 small bridges, 38 underpasses, and six flyovers. The project is being developed for INR 4,700 crore and is designed to make travel more convenient while boosting tourism and economic activities in the region.
Moreover, this expressway will connect seamlessly to the Lucknow Ring Road, improving intercity travel and regional connectivity. It’s not just about saving time—it’s also about fostering development in industries and tourism along the route.
The Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway is part of a larger effort to improve infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh. The Purvanchal Expressway, which connects Lucknow to Ghazipur, has already transformed travel in the eastern region. The Bundelkhand Expressway, linking Chitrakoot to Etawah, drives growth in Bundelkhand.
Another big project, the Ganga Expressway, is under construction. At 594 kilometres, it will be India’s longest expressway, running from Meerut to Prayagraj. It aims to boost trade and reduce travel time across the state.
Together, these expressways are revolutionising connectivity in Uttar Pradesh, making travel faster, safer, and more comfortable while fueling economic progress.
