For many travellers from Thailand, Gaya is an important gateway to Bodh Gaya, home to the Mahabodhi Temple. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Buddhism’s most important pilgrimage centres and draws visitors from Thailand and several other countries every year.

The new Bangkok-Gaya connection means pilgrims will no longer have to rely on a connecting flight to reach the region. It could also make Bodh Gaya more accessible to first-time international visitors looking to explore its Buddhist heritage.

Gaya-Bangkok Flight Schedule

IndiGo’s Gaya-Bangkok flight, 6E 1083, will depart Gaya at 1:15 PM and arrive in Bangkok at 5:50 PM.

The return service, 6E 1084, will leave Bangkok at 10:15 AM and reach Gaya at 12:15 PM.

More International Visitors Could Mean More Tourism

The new route is not only about making the journey easier. With a direct connection in place, more travellers from Thailand could consider visiting Bodh Gaya and other parts of Bihar. That could bring more business to hotels, restaurants, local transport providers, tour operators, and other tourism-related services.

The route could work both ways as well, giving travellers from Bihar a more convenient option for holidays and trips to Thailand.

Gaya Joins IndiGo’s Thailand Network

The new route will also expand IndiGo’s existing network between India and Thailand. The airline currently operates more than 140 flights a week between the two countries, with Bangkok connected to Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bhubaneswar.

IndiGo also operates direct flights to Phuket from Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata, as well as a direct Delhi-Krabi service. The addition of Gaya means travellers from Bihar will have another international flight option without first having to travel to another major Indian city.

India’s Aviation Sector Continues To Grow

The new international service comes at a time when passenger numbers across India’s aviation sector remain strong. Scheduled domestic airlines carried 729.40 lakh passengers between January and May 2026. In May, airlines carried 153.90 lakh passengers, up 9.49 per cent from April.

IndiGo continued to dominate the domestic market in May with a 64.9 per cent market share. The Air India Group followed with 25.6 per cent, while Akasa Air held 5.8 per cent.

For Gaya, the bigger story is what the new route could bring to the region. A direct Bangkok connection could make Bodh Gaya easier to reach for international pilgrims while opening Bihar up to more visitors from Thailand.
