After nearly six months of lockdown, the hotel industry in Kullu-Manali is all set to resume operations from October 1. Hotels in one of the most popular tourist destinations have remained closed since March 22.

The decision was confirmed by the President of Hoteliers Association of Kullu-Manali, Anup Thakur at a general meeting. Thakur said the association will launch a campaign to educate stakeholders such as dhaba owners, taxi operators and adventure service providers in maintaining safety protocols. All hotel staff will be trained in safety protocolas such as using gloves and sanitisers, and in conducting rapid testing on tourists. There are plans to set up a dedicated COVID care centre in Manali for infected travellers.

The Hoteliers Association of Kullu-Manali has over 2,000 hotels and homestays under their umbrella. Reports say that a huge number of people associated with the hospitality sector have lost their livelihood due to the shutdown.
