Goa's Dudhsagar Waterfall Reopens For Visitors; Bookings Open Now

Goa's Dudhsagar Waterfall has reopened its doors to tourists. The Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) recently initiated the booking of jeep safaris for visitors. These falls and the forest drive were temporarily closed during the monsoon season for safety considerations.

During an event marking the resumption of tourism activities at Kulem, GTDC Chairman Ganesh Gaonkar made the announcement. As per reports, the tourism corporation has engaged a service provider to oversee the online management of all activities associated with the waterfall. Moreover, it also urged the local panchayat to collaborate with GTDC in their digitalisation endeavours and underscored the tourism department's commitment to improving facilities for both tourists and drivers.

About The Jeep Safari

The jeep safari season at Dudhsagar reportedly starts on October 2 each year. To safeguard the environment, the management has implemented a quota system for the number of jeeps permitted to enter the sanctuary. On weekdays, this allocation is set at approximately 170 jeeps; on weekends, the number increases to 225. This regulatory system, overseen by the forest department, plays a pivotal role in minimising disruption to the native wildlife by maintaining a controlled and balanced flow of vehicles through the forested landscape of Dudhsagar.

As per reports, each registered jeep operator with the Forest Department generally accommodates around seven passengers, charging INR 500 per passenger.

Earlier this year, during the monsoon season, the forest department banned access to Dudhsagar Falls due to safety concerns.

A Must-Visit Waterfall

Dudhsagar Waterfall is the tallest waterfall in the state and originates in Karnataka. Located in the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary and Mollem National Park in Sanguem Taluka, it's part of the River Mandovi's journey from the Deccan Plateau to the Arabian Sea.

The waterfall drops from 310 meters, creating a milky pool at the base, giving it the name "Dudhsagar" or "sea of milk." It's a popular tourist spot, accessible from Mollem and Collem by road through the scenic forests.

A visit to Dudhsagar takes a full day and offers a different side of Goa tourism. You can even swim at the waterfall's base.

How To Reach

To reach Dudhsagar Waterfall by road, start from Panaji and drive southeast to Mollem, where you can access the waterfall by jeep or hike. If you are taking the train route, Dudhsagar Railway Station is the closest. There is also a jungle trek from Castle Rock in Karnataka to Dudhsagar Falls to reach the waterfall.
