From Fairmont Mumbai To The Ritz-Carlton, Pune, 12 Indian Hotels Added To The 2026 MICHELIN Guide

India’s hotel landscape just got a little bigger on the MICHELIN map. The 2026 MICHELIN Key selection has added 12 new Indian properties, taking the country’s total to 47. The list stretches across very different kinds of stays, from a wildlife resort in Bandhavgarh and a rammed-earth retreat in Ladakh to city hotels in Mumbai and a restored palace in Patiala. It is a mix that shows how much the idea of a memorable stay in India has expanded beyond grand heritage hotels.

The MICHELIN Key, unlike the MICHELIN Star, is awarded for the hotel experience itself, looking at elements such as design, service, character and value for money. Of the 12 new additions, one has received Two Keys while the remaining 11 have received One Key. Here are the new Indian hotels that have joined the MICHELIN Key selection this year.

What Is A MICHELIN Key?

Unlike MICHELIN Stars, which are awarded for restaurants, MICHELIN Keys recognise hotels. Inspectors look at the experience of staying there, including service, design, character and value for money.

There are three levels. One Key is given to a “very special stay,” Two Keys signal an “exceptional” experience and Three Keys are reserved for what MICHELIN describes as an “extraordinary” stay, where the hotel can almost function as a destination in itself. The Key system was introduced globally in 2024, making this only its second year.

The process is deliberately anonymous. MICHELIN inspectors check in like regular guests and pay their own way, assessing everything from arrival and service to housekeeping. Hotels do not know that an inspector is staying until after the visit, when a property may be considered for a more detailed evaluation.

That makes the selection less about a hotel's ability to impress during a specially arranged visit and more about what the experience is like for an ordinary guest.

The 12 New Indian Hotels On The 2026 MICHELIN Key List

This year’s additions bring together some familiar luxury names with smaller, more distinctive properties. From a wildlife resort in Madhya Pradesh and a wellness retreat in Rishikesh to a historic palace in Patiala and a farm stay in Jodhpur, the new entries cover very different ways of experiencing India.

The Oberoi Vindhyavilas Wildlife Resort, Bandhavgarh - Two MICHELIN Keys

The Oberoi Vindhyavilas Wildlife Resort is the only new Indian property to receive Two MICHELIN Keys this year. Set against the wilderness of Bandhavgarh National Park, the tented resort brings together a safari setting with the more polished experience associated with The Oberoi.
