Dhordo, Gujarat Included In UNWTO's 'Best Tourism Villages' List

Situated in the heart of the Kutch district in Gujarat, Dhordo village has recently gained international recognition by securing a spot on the prestigious list of 54 Best Tourism Villages by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The announcement was made during the G20's Tourism Working Group Meeting held under India's presidency. This accolade celebrates villages that excel in preserving landscapes, cultural diversity, local values, and culinary traditions.

Additionally, 20 more villages have become part of the Upgrade Programme, bringing the total to 74 villages integrated into the UNWTO Best Tourism Villages Network. The announcement occurred during the ongoing UNWTO General Assembly in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Underlining the importance of equitable benefits, UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili stated, "This initiative recognises villages that have leveraged tourism as a catalyst for their development and well-being."

All About Dhordo 

Dhordo is not merely a village recognised by UNWTO; it is a vibrant destination with much to offer. Nestled in the Great Rann of Kutch, Dhordo is famous for hosting the annual Rann Utsav, a cultural extravaganza that showcases the region's traditional art, music, and crafts. By air: The nearest airport is in Bhuj, approximately 80 km away, with limited domestic flights. Ahmedabad, 384 km away, is the closest major airport for international travellers.

By train: Bhuj Railway Station serves as the nearest railhead, with a distance of 80 km from Dhordo.

By road: The journey by road offers scenic views, and Dhordo is easily accessible from Bhuj, Ahmedabad, and other cities in Gujarat.
