Central Perk From 'Friends' To Have A Permanent Address In Boston

Travelling to Boston will be more memorable if you are a die-hard fan of the popular 90s show 'Friends'. After hosting numerous temporary setups, the long-awaited permanent Central Perk coffee shop from the famed sitcom is set to debut in the US city this week.

The opening was delayed initially due to the unexpected passing of Matthew Perry, known for his role as Chandler Bing. To honour Perry's legacy, the first day will feature coffee sleeves imprinted with Chandler's iconic line, "Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?"

Following the launch, the shop plans to introduce additional sleeves adorned with quotes from other key characters like Rachel, Ross, Monica, Phoebe, and Joey. Over recent years, various pop-up Central Perk versions appeared in New York and across Los Angeles County, often used by Warner Bros. 

Streaming availability and the 2021 reunion show revived interest in the sitcom, even as it approaches its 30th anniversary next year. This 2,600-square-foot permanent location on Newbury Street in Boston features a coffee menu curated by celebrity chef Tom Colicchio. The blends pay homage to famous catchphrases from the show, including "Pivot, Pivot" and "How You Doing."

The store replicates the iconic orange couch and boasts a neon sign spelling "The one with ...," reflecting the show's episode titles. Furthermore, the store's decor incorporates references to Chandler and Joey's pets—a gold chicken and duck.

Initially scheduled for October, the store's opening was delayed following Perry's sudden passing on October 28. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of his untimely death.
