Bangladesh has reopened visa services for Indian nationals at all its missions across the country, more than a month after imposing restrictions. The resumption of tourist visas is expected to provide a significant boost to cross-border travel.
On December 22 last year, Bangladesh had temporarily suspended visa issuance and consular services at its High Commission in New Delhi, the Assistant High Commission in Agartala, and the visa centre in Siliguri. Services were also put on hold at the mission in Guwahati. The full visa and consular services were restored on February 20, 2026.
Fully visa services for Indian nationals have been restored at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi and Assistant High Commissions, including Agartala and Siliguri. According to reports, the earlier suspension had caused significant delays for travellers, with Kolkata-based travel groups reporting a 60 per cent drop in cross-border traffic.
You can now avail all types of visas. VisaHQ has reported that appointments for tourist, business, and student visas are expected to reopen in stages starting from early March. Applicants should fill out the online visa form, print it, and submit it with their passport, photographs, and any supporting documents.
A passport valid for at least six months, proof of funds, and a travel itinerary are required. Processing usually takes 7–10 business days, though it is recommended to apply three to four weeks ahead of travel. Visa on arrival is generally not available for ordinary tourist or non-business visits, so a pre-arranged sticker visa must be obtained from the authorised missions.
Travellers may be asked for additional papers, including return tickets, hotel reservations, and evidence of funds, during the first month. Agents recommend applying at least ten days before departure and keeping an eye on mission websites for any new guidance.
Located east of India and bordered by it on its three sides, Bangladesh is famous for its lush green landscapes, numerous waterways, rich cultural heritage, diverse population, and massive textile industry. The place boasts a rich history with relics of Hindu, Islamic, and Buddhist traditions. With a significant cultural identity, Bangladesh upholds a vibrant art, literature, traditional music, and folklore culture. "Amar Shonar Bangla," penned by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, is the country's national anthem. Watch out for the handpainted rickshaws. They are like a moving exhibition of art, and have become an iconic aspect of Dhaka. The art, or 'Rickshawchitra', is on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
