A Week-Long Celebration of India's Handicrafts

Hailed as the second-largest craft week in the world after its international counterpart, the London Craft Week, India Craft Week (ICW) is an initiative that aims to act as a bridge for the country's iconic handicraft heritage, its skilled craft-people, independent makers, and contemporary brands.

New-Delhi based social venture Craft Village has joined hands with British Council to bring artisans, designers, and luxury brands on a single platform.

The four-day-long event is scheduled for February 18 to 21 at British Council and Bikaner House in New Delhi, from 11am to 7pm. 

Being held in the post-pandemic era, the third chapter of India Craft Week-Good Stories Untold will aim to give sustainable livelihood options and exposure to craft communities.

The showcase this year brings a community of over 100 craftspersons, makers, craft brands, museums, organisations, and figureheads while embracing multiple artistic genres.

"This is the largest delegation of Craft Week so far," says&nbspIti Tyagi, Founder of India Craft Week. "And these artisans for the first time gathering anywhere to showcase the rich and grandeur of India&rsquos vast tradition and culture, and the initiative is to help revive their home & hopes and connect with communities that appreciate and patronize them, I am hopeful that people would not only extend their hands, but hearts too. ICW 2021 brings the core theme as &lsquoCrafting Tomorrow&rsquo by bringing everyone together who can help craft sector revive and bounce back.&rdquo

The event organisers have lined up exhibits, cross-talks, workshops, installations, and craft cinema over seven days.

"The crafts economy includes tens of millions of craftworkers producing astonishing work of quality in rural communities and the metros in India," says&nbspJonathan Kennedy Director Arts &ndash British Council India. "We have partnered with the India Craft Week to reach out across digital frontiers and national boundaries in solidarity with the many inspiring craftworkers of India and beyond. The upcoming events at the India Craft Week showcase some exciting collaborations in craft between India and the UK."
