In a recent move towards improvement of last-mile connectivity for travellers, a strategic cooperation with Uber India has been launched at Noida International Airport (NIA), ahead of its grand opening to make air travel more convenient for NCR residents. The goal of this partnership is expected to render the whole travel experience by offering smooth, app-based transportation straight from the airport grounds.

Under the recent alliance, Uber will set up designated pick-up areas on airport property as part of the deal. To help travellers navigate from the arrival gate to their assigned Uber vehicles, these areas will be staffed by on-the-ground staff and comprehensive wayfinding aids to assist them. Reducing wait times and optimising the movement of passengers from air to ground transit are the goals of the effort.

The partnership also ensures that passengers will have access to Uber's app-based taxi services around the clock. Features include real-time ride tracking, cashless payments, and an SOS button within the app for enhanced safety. This service is part of NIA's broader commitment to integrating technology-driven solutions for passenger convenience.

Integration with Broader Connectivity Plans

The Uber agreement comes in as an addition to NIA's preexisting partnerships that are focused on improving connectivity. In the past, NIA and Mahindra Mobility collaborated to introduce a special airport cab service. Additionally, city bus services connecting the airport to different districts will also be introduced under a special purpose vehicle established by the authorities of the Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Motorways.

Additional contracts to run direct bus services to important cities in Haryana, Uttarakhand, and western Uttar Pradesh have been obtained with Haryana Roadways, Uttarakhand Transport Corporation, and UP Roadways.

Future Infrastructure Developments

Although the airport is located about 60 km from Noida, there are efforts underway to improve its accessibility by mass transit. In order to provide effective rail links to the airport, projects like the Ghaziabad–Jewar Regional Rapid Transit System are now under development, too. It is anticipated that these infrastructural improvements would add to sustain the projected passenger expansion and significantly enhance accessibility.
