The world’s most prestigious beauty festival, Miss World, is set to return to India for its 72nd edition. This time, Telangana will host the global event, which will span 28 days from May 4 to 31 across various destinations. The opening and closing ceremonies, including the grand final, are scheduled to be held in Hyderabad.
Following the grand success of the 71st Miss World in New Delhi and Mumbai, the event will move to Telangana, a state where tradition meets innovation and beauty is celebrated in all forms. Miss World stands as the most recognised and the oldest-running beauty festival, championing diverse representations of beauty with a purpose and promoting humanitarian causes worldwide.
As India’s youngest state, Telangana has made rapid strides and giant leaps in the first decade of its birth. Today, it stands out for its robust infrastructure and excellent connectivity, featuring one of the world’s best airports, a year-round pleasant climate, prestigious educational institutions, a thriving IT-enabled services sector, a global pharmaceutical hub with massive health infrastructure and a bustling film industry.
Its reputation for safety, tourist friendliness and thriving international ecosystem makes it an ideal destination for tourists from India and around the globe.
The contestants for the Miss World pageant will arrive at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad between May 6 and 8, where they will be greeted with a grand traditional welcome. An opening ceremony will take place on May 10 with folk and tribal dance performances.
Following this, the contestants will take a spiritual tour on May 12 to Nagarjunasagar to explore Buddhavanam, a Buddhist theme park. The next day, they will go on a heritage walk around the Charminar and Laadbazaar area, followed by a tour and welcome dinner at the Chowmahalla Palace.
On May 14, the contestants will explore the heritage of Warangal, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ramappa, a temple tour of Yadagirigutta and a visit to Pochampally to experience Telangana’s handloom industry firsthand.
Further items on the contestants’ itinerary include a medical tourism event, a tour of the Experium Eco Tourism Park, the finals of a sporting competition, a tour of Ramoji Film City, a rendezvous with local entrepreneurs, an arts and crafts workshop at Shilparamam, and an interaction with fashion and jewellery designers.
On May 26, a gala dinner featuring cultural performances by renowned Telangana artistes and a regional food festival will be held, before the hosting of the Miss World Grand Final on May 31. On June 2, the Miss World winners will meet the governor and chief minister of Telangana for high-tea at the Rajbhavan.
