In a recent cabinet meeting, the Telangana Government approved its first tourism policy since the state's formation, with the objective of large-scale development over the next five years. The Tourism Policy 2025-30 aims to establish 27 special tourism zones across Telangana and enhance infrastructure to increase visitor numbers. The policy is expected to attract investments of INR 15,000 crore, which will support the development of tourism infrastructure and promote heritage and nature-based attractions. It is also projected to create approximately three lakh jobs within the tourism sector.
Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy highlighted the government's commitment to transforming Telangana into a major tourist destination. He stated that efforts would focus on modernising tourism sites, improving connectivity, and providing incentives for investors. As part of this strategy, Hyderabad will host the Miss World 2025 pageant in May, with contestants from 140 countries. The Cabinet has tasked officials with ensuring the necessary security, accommodation, and transport arrangements for the event.
Telangana is home to a range of cultural and historical attractions, including the UNESCO-listed Ramappa Temple, Buddha Park at Nagarjuna Sagar, and the Amrabad Tiger Reserve. Iconic landmarks such as Golconda Fort, Charminar, and the Qutub Shahi Tombs further contribute to the state's appeal.
Hyderabad is also known for its cuisine, including its famous biryani, which continues to draw visitors. Additionally, the state is focusing on expanding temple tourism, medical tourism, and eco-tourism to diversify its offerings.
The Tourism Policy 2025-30 is a significant step towards positioning Telangana as a key player in India's tourism industry, with an emphasis on sustainable development and long-term growth. By improving infrastructure, promoting local heritage, and attracting international events, the state aims to enhance its visibility on the global tourism map and drive economic growth through increased tourism activity.
