Maharashtra Old Is New In Mumbai

If only walls could talk For nearly two centuries Maharashtra Raj Bhavan kept a secret, well hidden beneath the bungalow. Three years ago, in 2016, a British-era bunker was discovered, dating back to World War I. The Governor's House, also known as Jal Bhushan was the official residence of British governors back in 1885. Built in 1802, the Governor's House was pretty much a safe fortress, with provision for safe storage of arms and ammunition, basic necessities like water pipes and ventilation, in case of any emergency. The bunker, an impressive 15,000 sq ft underground safe-house with 13 rooms, has a good view of the Arabian Sea from three directions.

Fast forward to 2019, from October, the bunker will be open to public. The bunker will be converted into a museum, conveniently called the 'Bunker Museum'.
