Infamous for its ancient temples, unpopulated beaches and rich culture, Karnataka is the largest state in South India. From Belgaum in the north to Mysore in the south, the state had 30 districts, until now.
On February 8, the state government issued an official gazette notification carving out the 31st district from mineral-rich Ballari. The new Vijayanagara district will have six taluks&mdash Kotturu, Hagaribommana halli, Hoovina Hadagali, Kudligi, Harapanahalli, and Hosapete. The latter will be its headquarters. On the other hand, Ballari will have five taluks&mdash Ballari, Kurugodu, Siraguppa, Kampli, and Sanduru, with the Ballari taluk as its headquarters.
According to a PTI report, in September 2019, the plan for a new Vijayanagara district was officially raised by Chief Minister Yediyurappa. In a note written to the Chief Secretary, he stated that it was necessary to create a new district. Citing administrative reasons, the CM added that some parts of the Ballari district were about 200km from the present headquarters. In the following month of October, meetings were held in this regard. However, the CM deferred to decide on it.
