Air India, India’s premier global airline, has introduced in-flight Wi-Fi services on select domestic and international flights, becoming the first Indian carrier to provide internet connectivity on flights within the country.

Passengers flying aboard Air India’s Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9, and select Airbus A321neo aircraft can now stay connected during their journey, enjoying access to browsing, social media, work tools, and messaging platforms. For an introductory period, the service will be offered free of charge.

“Connectivity is now an integral part of modern travel,” said Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer at Air India. “For some, it is about the convenience and comfort of real-time sharing, while for others, it is about greater productivity and efficiency. Whatever the purpose, we are confident our guests will appreciate this new experience on board Air India flights.”

How To Access Wi-Fi Onboard

Travellers can connect their Wi-Fi-enabled devices, including laptops, tablets, and smartphones, by following these steps:

  1. Enable Wi-Fi and navigate to Wi-Fi settings.

  2. Select the "Air India Wi-Fi" network.

  3. On the redirected Air India portal, enter your PNR and last name.

  4. Access complimentary internet service.

The service is available above 10,000 feet and supports multiple devices per passenger. However, connectivity is subject to satellite availability, bandwidth usage, and route restrictions.

International Rollout And Future Plans

The domestic launch follows a successful pilot programme on Air India’s international routes to destinations such as New York, London, Paris, and Singapore. Over time, the service will be extended across the airline’s fleet.

This development is part of Air India’s broader transformation under its five-year Vihaan.AI program, which aims to establish the airline as a world-class global carrier. Recent milestones include the integration of Air Asia India and Vistara into the Air India group, opening South Asia’s largest aviation training academy, and ordering 470 new aircraft.
