A team of scientific researchers from Germany and Madagascar have discovered the world's smallest adult reptile. A chameleon that fits perfectly on your fingertip.
Named Brookesia nana (also known as the nano chameleon), it has snatched the first position for the world&rsquos smallest reptile from its neighbour, the Brookesia micra with an average length of 16mm and a tail of 29 mm. The adult male species of Brooksesia micra stood at a length of 15.3 mm.
While the adult female has an average length of 28.9 mm, the adult male stands at a length of 13.5 from the snout to the vent. Adding the tail, the total length reaches 21.6 mm. It is so tiny that you can place a few of them on a 150mm ruler (six inches) with their tails smoothly extended.
Reptiles are of varied sizes and shapes as well. On the bigger scale, the reticulated python is of 6.28mm which is equal to at least two hundred tiny chameleons. Next in line is the gharial that is longer than a dozen of these Brookesia nanas. And the length of a king cobra is at par with 180 tiny chameleons.
