Work from home just got taken to a whole new level.

If you want to spend a year on a beach, working from sea-side stays, then this is the perfect news for you. From August 1, the Bermuda government is opening its borders to &ldquodigital nomads&rdquo and post-secondary students (who are not from Bermuda). They can stay in the British Overseas Island Territory for a year and work or study form there. The One Year Residential Certificate will cost $263 for an individual person.

Many countries in the world are going through an economic depression in the wake of the raging pandemic. Bermuda is no exception, especially as it relies heavily on the tourism industry for most of its economy. Hence, the initiative by the Bermuda government is going to be beneficial for not only the economy of the nation but also the people who are going to come into the island nation to relax among pristine blue waters and enthralling beaches.

As the pandemic situation worsens, companies are increasingly realising that work from home facilities can be made permanent even after the pandemic fades away. People do not need to go to a specific official building to do their jobs which can be done from anywhere with the help of a computer and a steady internet connection.

To work from the beachside n Bermuda, you have to be over the age of 18 with a valid health insurance, and with no record of conviction. You have to be either enrolled in a university or provide proof of employment in a legitimate firm operating outside of Bermuda.

The application form will be available on or before August 1 on the government website and has to be submitted over the web.

The &lsquoBarbados Welcome Stamp&rsquo is a similar initiative by the Barbados government whereby people can stay on the Caribbean island for a year that too without any visa requirements.

If you do not want to commit to a year's stay, Bermuda has also extended its tourist visa from 90 to 180 days.

The COVID-19 pandemic is bringing out innovative initiatives from various countries that are looking for ways to stabilise their economy. It is worthwhile to mention that Bermuda is allowing visitors from any country including India as long as they bring a negative COVID-19 certificate from their country.

The question is, will you be able to get a flight to Bermuda from India Short answer Not yet. But things on that front are evolving and changing all the time. Recently, many travel portals like Cleartrip, MakeMyTrip, and Easemytrip announced that they are allowing travellers to book domestic and international flights to countries like France, Germany and USA. Who knows Perhaps very soon you will be able to get that flight to the Caribbean islands.
