The drive from Delhi took me a little over five and a half hours, with the Shivalik foothills emerging like a soft watercolour on the horizon. As I entered the property, what struck me first was its composure a city hotel with the soul of a retreat. The lobby, airy and minimalistic, radiated warmth, while the courteous staff ensured my check-in was seamless.
What instantly caught my attention was the hotel’s architectural intent. My home for two nights was the Executive Suite, the hotel’s grandest residence and easily one of the finest suites I’ve stayed in. The room opened to a spacious living area, tastefully done in muted tones with subtle gold accents and warm lighting. Every detail reflected an obsession with hygiene spotless floors, crisp linen, gleaming fixtures, and an immaculate scent of fresh linen that lingered through my stay.
The suite features dual washrooms, an element of rare luxury for city hotels, adding a thoughtful layer of convenience for business or leisure travellers. The panoramic city view felt like a live canvas with the Shivalik hills rising in the distance and by night the city lights shimmering like stars turned upside down.
Beyond aesthetics, what impressed me most was Sterling’s attention to cleanliness and upkeep. The housekeeping team worked with quiet precision every corner dusted, every amenity replenished without intrusion. For someone who values both hygiene and privacy, it struck a perfect balance.
On my first evening, I took the elevator to Skyline, the hotel’s much-talked-about rooftop restaurant and bar. Perched atop the city’s skyline, it’s Dehradun’s highest rooftop dining destination and it truly feels that way. The moment the doors opened, a cool breeze greeted me, carrying with it the hum of soft jazz and the aroma of Himalayan herbs.
The ambiance blends heritage elegance with modern flair emerald-green upholstery, soft gold detailing, and candlelit tables overlooking the shimmering city below. The open-air terrace, meanwhile, is a dreamscape at sunset the Shivalik’s bathed in gold, the sky turning blush, and the first twinkles of the city beginning to appear.
The menu at Skyline celebrates the art of culinary elevation. I began with Himalayan herbed chicken, perfectly grilled, infused with mountain spices and a subtle citrus tang that awakened the palate. The tandoori citrus trout, a nod to the region’s rivers, followed delicate, flaky, and kissed with smoky finesse. Each dish reflected Sterling’s culinary philosophy: regional authenticity with global technique.
The service was impeccable attentive without being overbearing. My server recommended a local twist on a cocktail infused with rhododendron syrup and it was the perfect companion to the mountain dusk. As the city lights glittered below, I realized Skyline wasn’t just about food; it was about perspective of dining high above, yet feeling deeply grounded.
What impressed me most about Sterling GK Exotica was its balance between work and leisure, modernity and mindfulness. The hotel isn’t just a place to sleep; it’s a place to think, meet, and breathe. From morning coffee on the terrace to an evening drink under starlit skies, every experience feels curated, not crowded.
