Inside Atmantan Wellness Centre, India’s Transformative Hilltop Retreat

Nikhil Kapur, Founder-Director of Atmantan Wellness Centre, talks about building a high-vibration healing sanctuary that unites ancient learnings, modern diagnostics, and nature's restorative power
Published on

Set atop a rare crystal hill overlooking Mulshi Lake, Atmantan is more than a wellness retreat—it’s a convergence point of nature, energy, and intention. Founded by Nikhil Kapur, the centre is grounded in a belief that healing begins with harmony—between the microcosm within us and the macrocosm around us. With data-backed programmes like MASTER CLEANSE™ and Weight Balance™, Atmantan delivers tangible results while honouring the emotional and spiritual layers of wellbeing. In this conversation, Kapur shares the centre’s integrative approach, the science behind its success, and how Atmantan is shaping the future of wellness tourism in India and beyond.

Q

Atmantan is located on a rare crystal hill overlooking Mulshi Lake. How does the unique geography and energy of the location shape the healing experience for your guests?

A

At Atmantan, we believe true healing stems from understanding our profound connection to the natural world. Our philosophy centres on the timeless wisdom of microcosm and macrocosm. The microcosm is our inner universe—the individual body, mind, and spirit—and the material world we inhabit. The macrocosm encompasses the vast, interconnected ecosystems of planet Earth and beyond, which tirelessly maintain the delicate balance of life.

Nature itself is one of the strongest healing forces, and as our guests spend time engaging in earthing, breathing in clean air, surrounded by the lake and hills, these moments of connection with nature reduce inflammation, ease stress, improve sleep, and restore energy levels. Perched atop a crystal hill, this universal harmony becomes palpable at Atmantan. The hill itself, a conduit of the Earth’s ancient energies, amplifies the restorative power of our natural surroundings, deepening the healing resonance between your inner microcosm and the magnificent macrocosm that sustains us all.

We know that crystals are known to carry a consciousness of their own, and being built on this crystal terrain lends Atmantan a naturally healing energy. Many guests say it feels like a “high-vibe place”, where every corner feels sacred, and “you don’t need to look for a direction to pray or meditate. The energy is simply present.”

Q

With programs like MASTER CLEANSE™ and Weight Balance™, Atmantan offers results-driven wellness. How do you ensure these therapies remain grounded in scientific efficacy while honouring ancient wisdom?

A

We believe in fostering a scientific temper in all our programmes and approaches. We offer doctor-guided programmes, and hence, we measure and track key parameters of our guests depending on their objectives. The MASTER CLEANSE at Atmantan is a holistic detox as it cleanses the physical and emotional body. The physical body cleanse is done at a cellular level with our dietary protocols. The other highlights are the gut cleanse and lymphatic drainage. Emotional cleansing is achieved through various practices, including conscious breathing, meditation, self-reflection, and counselling. Detox is commonly used; however, a well-structured detox programme is often used to address many ailments—gut-related, hormonal, inflammatory, etc.

Similarly, in our Weight Balance programme, we address inflammation, hormonal balance, and metabolic rate through a combination of targeted treatments, including Udwarthanam, RMR-based Metabolic Testing, Postural Integration, Pilates, lymphatic drainage, personalised nutrition, and fitness activities. It’s a highly result-oriented programme where we track the progress through tools such as body composition analysis, blood markers, and the guest’s subjective feelings regarding energy, sleep, and mood.

While science guides our choices, we always stay connected to the person at the centre of it all. That’s where traditional Indian wisdom continues to guide us. Every individual is different, and we never take a one-size-fits-all approach. Our integrated approach allows us to draw from the best of modern diagnostics, traditional medicine, and evidence-based techniques to create highly personalised programmes.

Q

Atmantan integrates multiple healing modalities—Ayurveda, Naturopathy, Oriental medicine, and energy work. How do you harmonise such diverse disciplines into a coherent wellness journey for each guest?

A

At Atmantan, we are fundamentally committed to integrated wellness, knowing that true and lasting transformation is achieved through a truly synergistic approach. We don't simply offer a menu of services; we masterfully harmonise multiple powerful healing modalities—from the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda and the foundational principles of Naturopathy, to the precise diagnostics of physiotherapy and fitness, and the subtle restoration of energy work and other contemporary approaches.

The coherence of each guest's journey is achieved through our medically-driven, integrative approach. Every guest's journey begins with in-depth medical and wellness diagnostics. Our team of experienced doctors, trained in our approach, assesses individual health profiles, unique imbalances, and specific wellness goals. Our doctors are trained in the disease-causing pathways of many lifestyle ailments and, therefore, can prepare an effective programme that helps manage the condition better.

Based on this comprehensive understanding, they prepare a framework for the duration of the stay. This is an entirely customised protocol and not a cookie-cutter solution; it's a bespoke blueprint designed to address the individual’s root causes, drawing strategically from the most relevant modalities. Our teams work in seamless collaboration, where the modalities are sequenced and combined to amplify their benefits. The guest’s journey is end-to-end and continuously monitored. Regular consultations with their doctors ensure progress is tracked and the protocol is adapted as needed, responding to the body’s evolving needs.

Atmantan is a non-judgmental haven where individuals feel comfortable to partake in their programme. Crucially, we empower our guests with knowledge and understanding. They learn how these diverse disciplines work together and how to integrate sustainable wellness practices into their daily lives post-Atmantan. This education reinforces the coherence of their journey long after their stay, ensuring lasting results.

Q

The Mindful Eating Challenge has become a hallmark of Atmantan’s approach to food. How do you foster lasting nutritional change through this programme?

A

Our wellness cuisine plays a pivotal role in transforming our guests. It is prescriptive and meals are curated under the guidance of a doctor and tailored to suit individual health conditions, allergies, and wellness goals. Every dish served is evidence-based and medicinal in benefit, supporting the body’s innate healing mechanisms. By focussing on portion control, nutrient density, and ingredients, we help the body recalibrate itself.

We go beyond just serving healthy food; we educate our guests. Through our interactive cooking classes, guests learn practical techniques to prepare flavourful, wholesome meals using organic, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients. However, what ensures long-term change is our Aftercare Programme. We continue to engage with our guests through nutritional consultations and lifestyle guidance, helping them integrate these habits into their everyday lives, even after they leave Atmantan.

Q

As a LEED Gold-certified and NABH-accredited centre, how does sustainability inform your day-to-day operations and long-term wellness vision?

A

Being a LEED Gold-certified centre means our buildings are designed and operated in a way that's good for the environment and for people. It guides our everyday work by ensuring we use less energy and water, manage waste responsibly, and create a healthy indoor environment. Our NABH certification means we meet high standards for quality medical care and guest safety.

For us, sustainability isn’t just a rule; it’s part of our wellness philosophy. We believe that a healthy planet is essential for healthy people. So, in our day-to-day operations, we focus on things like:

  • Saving Resources: Using energy-efficient lighting, carefully managing water, and recycling.

  • Healthy Choices: Serving locally sourced, fresh food and using natural, non-toxic cleaning products.

  • Being Mindful: Always seeking ways to minimise our environmental impact.

Looking ahead, our long-term wellness vision is deeply tied to sustainability. We want to be a place where guests can truly recharge and reconnect with nature, knowing that our operations support both their well-being and the health of the planet. We're constantly exploring new ways to enhance our eco-friendly practices, aiming to be a leader in sustainable luxury wellness for generations to come.

Gold LEED is the Green Building Certification Programme that recognises best-in-class building strategies and practices. It has been awarded to Atmantan, as we have been green and sustainable from the day we started building. Among its worthy measures is the fact that Atmantan has the largest solar hot water installation for a resort in the country, and the sewage treatment plant here utilises a revolutionary patented system (SIBF). Gold Leed has ensured that Atmantan remains faithful to nature and contributes to it, rather than just taking from it.

Q

Emotional healing plays a significant role at Atmantan. How do therapies like pranic healing and chakra balancing complement the physical detox and rehabilitation process?

Atmantan believes that emotional healing must go hand in hand with physical detox

A

At Atmantan, we believe that healing must happen from the inside out. While physical detoxification and rehabilitation help cleanse the body, true transformation occurs when emotional wellbeing is also addressed. Our HOLISTIC HEALTH retreat is centred around this philosophy of emotional reset and energy realignment. It helps guests release toxic thought patterns, undo emotional knots, and reset the chakra system. With the use of alternative healing techniques, this retreat not only supports physical health but also fosters deep emotional clarity and balance.

Pranic Healing and Chakra Balancing as energy healing modalities perfectly complement our physical detox protocols by targeting the emotional imbalances and energetic blocks that often underlie chronic conditions! Pranic Healing, based on Grand Master Choa Kok Sui’s system, is a systematic process involving scanning, cleansing, and healing. The healer assesses energetic depletion or congestion in the aura and then cleanses and heals this aura, which in turn transfers the healing to the physical body. This also clears the emotional clutter and enhances the body’s natural healing abilities. Emotional healing must go hand in hand with physical detox, such that the body, mind, and energy start working together. This is where real transformation begins.

Q

As Atmantan completes nine years, how have you seen the wellness tourism landscape evolve in India—and what does the future hold for deeply transformative wellness travel?

A

Wellness is no longer an indulgence; it is a necessity for people as they navigate the demands of their fast-paced lives. Prioritising personal wellbeing on the go has become a norm with individuals seeking destinations that align with their health goals and sustainable lifestyle choices. Rising disposable incomes, increased health awareness, and the understanding that programmes in alternative medical sciences can better heal their ailments are all valid reasons driving the growth of the wellness market.

Whether it's Ayurveda, stress relief, disease management and reversal, lifestyle corrections, holistic experiences, or simply rejuvenation, people are now drawn to travel experiences that help them improve their physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. And this is where India, as the ultimate haven of ancient healing modalities, reigns supreme!

India is a pioneer in the global wellness movement. According to industry reports, India’s wellness tourism market size is expected to reach USD 26.55 billion by 2029, growing at a CAGR of 6.45 per cent during this period. Wellness travellers are looking beyond just spa treatments and recreation; they are in search of more meaningful and life-altering transformative experiences, which is where an integrated wellness centre like Atmantan comes in.
